Honfleur, the prettiest town along the Calvados Coast, is a gem of a place situated on the south bank of an estuary to the Seine, opposite the large port of Le Havre. The nearby and imposing Normandy Bridge is visible from the historic centre, the Vieux Bassin, or old harbour. Although small, Honfleur's picturesque downtown is crammed with charming art galleries, gift shops, antique stores, boutiques, cavistes selling cider and wine and other regional specialities.
Take a visit back in time to this wonderfully preserved port with its rich historic and artistic heritage of quaint streets, museums,

churches and monuments. This picturesque port is lined with both traditional fishing boats and superb modern yachts. Lining the historic harbour are traditional, slate-facade buildings and a number of charming restaurants featuring Norman specialities such as baked camembert and moules à la Normande - mussels in a cream sauce flavoured with cider and mushrooms. The best places to eat are around the harbour where you can comfortably dine ”en terrace” with the boats in full view. Honfleur is also known for its unique Saint Catherine's Church, the largest and oldest wooden church in France. Nearby you can be found narrow cobbled streets, art galleries and traditional craft shops. A traditional Honfleur afternoon stroll is along the sea-walls from the old port, past the lighthouse and lock, to the beach. Along the walk, a new “garden of fame” has been created, featuring Honfleur celebrities, including the famous painter Claude Monet. From the Côte de Grâce, the hill some 1,5 km from the town centre, are spectacular views of the Seine estuary, the harbour and Le Havre.
